External preparations such as a poultice, compress, soak, infused oil, or salve can be used as needed (Easley & Horne, 2016). In Germany, the recommended exposure to external comfrey preparations is limited to 100 μg unsaturated PAs per day for a maximum of 4-6 weeks per year (Gardner & McGuffin, 2013).
